Sleep challenges are more common than ever, especially among high-functioning professionals, caregivers, creatives, and those navigating transitions or stress. If you have struggled with sleep concerns, you are not alone. If you, friends or family are struggling now, I have some ideas.
Sleep Whisperer?
As many of you know, I’ve long been passionate about helping people sleep better. Some call me a “Sleep Whisperer,” but the truth is more grounded. My approach draws on decades of experience in psychotherapy, performance coaching, applied neuroscience — and yes, my own annoying brushes with insomnia and sleep apnea.
Over the past year, I’ve deepened my training in behavioral sleep medicine, completing a certificate in CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia), consulting closely with an expert mentor and now pursuing Diplomat status in behavioral sleep medicine. The results of using CBT-I with my clients are so impressive.
📚 What is CBT-I?
CBT-I is the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia, recommended by the American College of Physicians. It’s evidence-based, effective, and often outperforms sleep medications in both short- and long-term results. For insomnia, it helps where traditional “sleep hygiene” (good habits) can not. So many of my clients have had impeccable sleep habits and still laid awake frustrated from not being able to find that deep sleep they craved.
CBT-I is well-suited for people who are also navigating:
sleep medication use
other therapies (including EMDR, mindfulness, or talk therapy), or
medical treatment for conditions like depression, cancer, ADHD, or anxiety.
—> In other words, you don’t have to give up your current sleep medication or therapist to address your insomnia with a CBT-I therapist.
This summer I’ve reserved a portion of my private practice for sliding-scale and pro bono CBT-I sessions for highly motivated individuals who may not otherwise have access to care. Reach out.
I’m licensed in Illinois and Florida, work in-network with several insurance plans.

Hi Diane, I was in one of your group coaching programs in Chicago many, many years ago! Great to see you on Substack. This is timely as my primary care physician recently recommended CBT-I to help address my insomnia. I wish you were licensed in Virginia!
